We mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Gunther Heidemann
The University of Osnabrück and in particular all members of the Institute of Cognitive Science and the Computer Vision group mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Gunther Heidemann, who died tragically on August 14 at the age of 58. Gunther Heidemann became a W3 professor at the Institute of Cognitive Science (IKW) in April 2011. In addition to his teaching activities in the fields of machine learning and computer vision, he has since been instrumental in establishing the “Biologically Oriented Computer Vision” working group and has also rendered outstanding services to the IKW and the Department of Human Sciences in many ways through his extensive administrative commitment.
About
Gunther Heidemann received the Diploma degree in Physics from the Universities of Karlsruhe and Münster, Germany, in 1992. From 1993 to 2004, he was am member of the Neuroinformatics group at Bielefeld University, where he recieved the Ph.D. degree (Dr.-Ing.) in Computer Science in 1998. In 2005, he joined the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the Florida State University and the Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, USA, as an assistant professor. Later in 2005, he became professor at the Institute for Visualization and Interactive Systems at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He joined the Institute of Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrück in 2011 as head of the Computer Vision group.
